Create a Still life from a complimentary color scheme (see reference below and to the right).

Size: Sketchbook size, please mount NEATLY on board.
Materials: Acrylic paint, water, mediaum

 

Complementary colors are those that are opposite each other on the color wheel. You might use shades or tints from one complementary set in combination. In the six pairs seen here, some shades and tints are shown. The top and bottom of the six pairs are equivalent to all 12 hues in the color wheel. The top three are the primary colors, which are paired with the secondary colors. All the tertiary colors are in the lower row of pairs. (top illustration)

 

These are sets of colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. Unlike simple complementary pairs, however, in a split you substitute the two colors on either side of the directly complemenatary partner color. There are 12 such combinations.
