PROBLEM: Analyzing line use to create texture, contour, light and shadow

MATERIALS:, ink, pencil, charcoal
PRESENTATION: full sketchbook paper or 9 x 12”
ESTIMATED TIME TO COMPLETE: 3-4 hours

a) create a grid of one inch squares

b) using a pen and ink, create a different texture filling each square

c) within the composition, add elements from still life. These elements must be created by using multiple line textures, each confined to it's own square (see examples to the right)
